Artist Statements
I relish any opportunity to support an artist seeking words for their artist statement and biography. As an artist myself, I understand the importance of these texts, as they must simultaneously introduce a dynamic practice and convey the artist's intricate sensibilities, especially for onlookers who have not yet experienced their work in person.
I investigate the artist’s practice by conducting a casual interview about their work: burrowing into their motivations, inspirations, processes. I take note of how they speak and describe their pieces. Of course, I make sure I understand what the artist wants first – the specific tone, approach, and how much they want to reveal. It is ultimately a collaboration, artist to artist. In the end, we both get to witness the birth of a new text, and enjoy a wonderful afternoon chat!
